Current Information:Born-Hackney Bailleul Communal Cemetery, France
Throughout January, 1915, the 1st Rifle Brigade battalion of 11 Brigade, 4th Division were holding the line around German House in Ploegsteert Wood. Because of flooding here, the trenches were shallow, protected by breastworks of sand bags and the battalion spent most of their time trying to improve the defences as well as having to contend with shell and sniper fire. In all likelihood it was one of these that resulted in the death of Horace Padian who died from wounds on 27th January, 1915. |
